Software Testing Glossary

An element in a taxonomy of defects.

The association of variables' definitions and their usage. Variables are used, in particular, for the calculation (for example, multiplication), or the path of execution (as a predicate).

Any product that should be delivered to someone but the project author.

An iterative four-step problem-solving process, (plan-do-check-act), typically used in process improvement.

Testing type which examines an application's requirements for pre-existing software, initial states and configuration in order to maintain proper functionality.

An approach to software testing in which test cases are developed based on the architecture and/or detailed design of a component or system.

Software testing by manual simulation of their performance on the test bench.

Type of testing in which the tests are carried out to the specimen's failure, in order to understand a specimen's structural performance or material behavior under different loads.

Formal or informal testing conducted during the implementation of a component or system, usually in the development environment by developers.

The phase within the ideal model where it is determined where one is, relative to where one wants to be.
