What are ISTQB Certification Levels?

A reputable certificate of a software tester gives many advantages for a test engineer on the job market. Among the most popular certifications is ISTQB.

ISTQB means International Software Testing Qualifications Board. It is a non-profitable organization founded in 2002. Many known experts in software testing voluntarily work there.

It is difficult to get the certificate, one should thoroughly prepare for the exam.

ISTQB Has 3 Levels of Certification:

  • Foundation Level. To apply for this level of certification one should have at least half a year of experience in mobile testing, desktop testing and web site testing. During the tests the applicants must show fundamental skills and knowledge of software testing notions, methods and approaches.
  • Advanced Level. Specialists in functional testing, usability testing, user interface testing, security testing and so on with substantial knowledge and experience may apply for this type of certificate, if they have foundation level certification.
  • Expert Level. This certificate can get only test engineers with no less than 5 years of experience, having certificates of the previous levels. Certification of this level requires substantial experience and deep knowledge in application testing and related fields. There are several different modules in the exam for different specializations in software testing.
