Alpha Testing is testing of the software by staff employees, or potential customers on the side of the developer.
Most often it is an internal acceptance testing of the finished product.
Sometimes this type of testing is performed using an environment that helps to identify errors quickly. After that, the detected errors are passed to testers for further study in an environment close to that which would be used.
